Imagine a secret hidey hole that’s just for kids: no adults allowed! A cool, shady place to hide in the heat of summer, with a tangle of big leave, and bright red flowers. And, with bits you can eat, too!
Yes, it’s time to grow a runner bean wigwam. Runner beans are fab – they grow from huge seeds, are easy to grow, and have gorgeous flowers and long, delicious pods. A simple wigwam shape can be constructed using bamboo canes (don’t forget to leave a space for the opening!).
May/June is the time to plant runner bean seeds, and you can get them right here at Gardening for Kids.
To make your wigwam really special, why not grow some colourful flowers around the base and put a sign up near the door?
