Get ready for National Children’s Gardening Week 2021
This is a week-long campaign to get all children outside, sowing, growing and learning. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, school or business (or most importantly – a kid of any age), now’s the time to get stuck into all things gardening. Join us and celebrate the fun that gardens hold for kids.
Gardening is good for you – that’s official!
The British Psychological Society reports that gardening improves children’s emotional and mental wellbeing, educational outcomes, and social relationships. It’s not only children who benefit, adults do too: after the year we’ve all had, we all could do with some of the peace that gardening brings.
Schools throughout the UK will be getting involved and encouraging pupils to plant and grow. Garden centres will have a Peppa Pig activity booklet available, free with a donation to Save The Children.
How to get involved
Two exciting competitions will be running all week to win some amazing prizes:
- National Children's Gardening Week are running a 'Design your own Plant Marker' competition on their Facebook throughout this week, with the chance to win our amazing Peppa Pig Growing Kits
- The amazing Muddy Puddle Teacher, an expert in the field of outdoor learning and forest schools, is giving away our incredible Phonescope. Send in a picture of your beautiful garden for a chance to win! Stay tuned for details of how to enter
Head over to NCGW's Facebook page for details on how to enter the competition to win your Peppa Pig growing kit.
The last week in May is perfect growing time. Children anywhere in the UK can grow all their favourite veggies and flowers without the worry that cold weather will kill their precious plants or stop their eagerly awaited seeds from germinating.
Plant some seeds and let us know how you get on; turn over that neglected patch in your garden; pot up some herbs to start your very own kitchen-garden. Best for children are plants with brightly coloured flowers, tactile leaves, tantalising scents, and fast-growing tasty crops. There’s so much to discover, and we have everything here to help you. Take a look at our handy guide: what to grow with the kids in May/June.
Why Gardening For Kids?
As the UK’s only specialist retailer of all things gardening and nature for children, we have been on a mission for years to get kids into the garden and sow the seeds of a healthy hobby that lasts a lifetime.
