Here at Gardening for Kids, we are on a mission to encourage the next generation of gardeners to use less plastic and peat.

We were amazed to find these innovative alternatives to plastic plant pots.  Waste wool from sheep farming is used to create little woolly plant pots!  Each stretchy wool pot is filled with peat-free compost (great fun for little gardeners!) and used to sow seeds or transplant larger seedlings.  The natural tiny holes in the fabric allow air to get to the roots and promote healthy growth.

Once the plants are ready to transplant into the garden or a large patio pot, simply dig a hole in the soil and pop the whole wool pot in.  The wool ‘collar’ acts as a barrier to slugs and the whole thing will break down naturally into rich plant food.  Completely sustainable, biodegradable and environmentally friendly.  Made in the UK and Egypt, helping farmers find a use for large quantities of wool waste.
